We will send out a letter soon detailing the impacts of updated safety guidelines; this meet is sanctioned in accordance with USA Swimming's most recent guidelines. Race Plan
The Sandhills Sandsharks will serve as hosts for the 2012 North Carolina Open Water Champs (5K/3K/2K/800M/400M). The races will be conducted on June , 2012—Male and Female 400M, and June 2, 2012—Male and Female 5K, 3K, 2K, and 800M. The races will be conducted in Lake Echo, Seven Lakes, NC. Pre-race staging and post-race recovery will be on the damn/race site, less than 100m from the start/finish area. Water safety and rescue services will be provided by Seven Lakes EMS services, lifeguards, and American Medical Association certified physicians. Officiating by a Nationally certified open water official, supplemented by Sandsharks and NC Swimming local officials.
Open Water 101
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators….
DO park in the paddock area
DO allow for time to be shuttled to the race area
DO set up on the Lake side of the Dam for your child’s safety
DO bring umbrellas/shade structures, chairs, etc.
DON’T crowd the finish area…pictures of the swimmers can be taken on the podium between award ceremonies
DON’T put sunscreen on your arm until after it’s been marked and dried
DO pick up your trash on your way out.
DO turn your chip in after your last race ($ fine for lost chips)
